If changing the sheets is not necessarily a pleasure, think hygiene first ! If the pillowcases, duvet covers, fitted sheets, are not maintained regularly, you will find yourself sleeping in the middle of mites, bed fleas and other nasty bacteria. Not top right?
Why wash and change your sheets regularly?
Well simply because it is a hygiene first. The more or washed regularly, the cleaner it is, the better. Airing your room every day is very good but it does not clean the sheets. Washing your sheets kills bacteria, prevents dust mites or bed fleas from settling and dust from becoming encrusted. The frequency with which to wash your bed linen often depends on your lifestyle. Depending on the season or your hygiene habits, you may tend to space out or shorten the frequency of washing your bed linen. So how often should you really wash your sheets?
Pillowcases, fitted sheets and duvet covers
Did you know that mites can cause asthma and allergies? This is another reason to wash your sheets regularly. And it is the pillowcases, duvet covers and fitted sheets that we must change and wash most often. In addition, if you sleep alone or as a couple, in pajamas or naked, the habits to adopt will be different. If you sweat less in the winter or tend to take your shower in the evening, this does not mean that you should space the washes during these periods or compared to your habits. However, we can give ourselves a rhythm ofonce a week in summer and every 2 weeks in winter. To set a reasonable frequency, wash your sheets on average every 2 weeks, and even more often if you feel the need, for example when you sweat in the summer. Do not hesitate to wash them after a week if you think it is necessary to do so, a matter of common sense. What could be nicer than sleeping in fresh, clean sheets at night?
Duvets and pillows
Perspiration, mites, dead skin ... too often neglected, the duvet and pillows are not spared and are therefore also washed regularly. If people think of washing their sheets, they unfortunately forget their quilts and pillows. Regarding the frequency, wash your duvets and pillows at least once a quarter or twice a year, following the summer and winter. Of course the ideal would be once every month, but it may cost you dear in dry cleaning!
Other decorative elements
Throws, decorative cushions, don't forget to wash them too at regular intervals! We sometimes tend to forget to change or wash them, but they too are in contact with the sheets and therefore with bacteria. If you have pets that sometimes climb on them, be even more meticulous when it comes to washing your sheets regularly. Fleas, ticks and other little critters can slip into it…
At what temperature?
There too, use a relatively long wash cycle (not fast 30!) and don't hesitate to wash at least 40 degrees, see even at 60. The heat kills bacteria and by not washing hot enough you risk not eliminating any mites that may have settled in your sheets ...
Open your bedroom window every day, when you change your sheets take the opportunity to ventilate the duvet and pillows before putting them back, shower in the evening to get rid of the dirt collected throughout the day, clean regularly, close the door of your room if you have pets… You will understand, the hygiene of a room is just as important as that of a bathroom.
