Visit of the vegetable garden of the Princes

Just by its name, the "Vegetable Garden of the Princes" makes the imagination speak. Does it come from a time when the lords had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening? To find out, let's go back to the origins of this place, namely in the 17th century, in 1682 precisely. At that time, the Grand Condé had the "Parc de la Faisanderie" built in the gardens of the Château de Chantilly, located in the Oise department, about fifty kilometers north of Paris. The design of the gardens is entrusted to André Le Nôtre who creates perspectives, ponds and terraces. Then, throughout history, the garden will be transformed in turn into a "Roman Pavilion" then into an equine veterinary clinic. Last development project that could have sounded the death knell for the garden, the creation of a subdivision of 58 pavilions. Fortunately, in the early 2000s, the garden was bought by Yves Bienaimé who, with the help of gardener Serge Saje, took it to heart to revive the spirit of the initial garden. It was then that, under the name of "Potager des Princes", began the story of the renewal of a garden with its roots in the distant history of France, that of the princes of Condé.
